Originally elected to the Second Division they have spent most of their time in the top flight of English football. Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich bought the club in June 2003 and over £100 million was spent on new players and Jose Mourinho was appointed manager. Chelsea enjoyed great success in the next few years winning the FA Cup, two League Cups and back to back League Championships.
Carlo Ancelotti took over as manager in 2009 and delighted the fans by leading Chelsea to their first League and FA Cup Double . In the 2010/11 season Chelsea finished runners up in the Premier League and went out in the quarter finals of the Champions League, Ancelotti parted company with the club in May 2011.
